WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded a contract worth $19,979,000 to an Indianapolis firm for construction at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center on West Tenth Street.
“This project will ensure that Indiana‘s veterans continue to receive world-class health care in our Indianapolis facility,” said the Honorable R. James Nicholson, Secretary of Veterans Affairs. “As VA enters a year-long observance of its 75th anniversary, the Roudebush Medical Center continues our proud tradition of serving America‘s heroes.”
The F. A. Wilhelm Construction Company of Indianapolis received a contract for construction of two additional floors at the Indianapolis facility. The project will replace 96 beds to meet accessibility standards for the disabled and for privacy. The addition will also include a new inpatient pharmacy on the seventh floor.
Built in 1952, the Roudebush facility provided nearly 400,000 outpatient visits and more than 6,500 hospitalizations for veterans last year. It is affiliated with the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Last year, VA spent more than $900 million to provide health care, disability compensation, memorial benefits and other services to more than 555,000 Indiana veterans. VA operates major medical centers in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Marion, plus outpatient clinics, Vet Centers and three national cemeteries in Indiana.
