WASHINGTOND.C. – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that Under Secretary for Health Dr. Robert H. Roswell submitted his resignation today.

“Much has been accomplished over the past two years, Roswell said, but with the dynamic changes the Department now faces I feel it is important we have a new perspective in leadership.”

Dr. Roswell has been with the Department of Veterans Affairs since 1976.  During his tenure as Under Secretary for Health he has overseen significant changes in long term care for older veterans and the enhancement of mental health services for those veterans in need.  Dr. Roswell was also instrumental in helping VA move from a hospital centered organization to a 21st century patient focused health care delivery system.  Dr. Roswell will serve in a consulting capacity during his transition.

Dr. Jonathan B. Perlin, Deputy Under Secretary for Health for the Department of Veterans Affairs will assume the duties of Acting Under Secretary for Health.

A national search committee will be convened shortly to identify a permanent replacement for Dr. Roswell.
