  • “We attacked the woods. Thank God, we are still alive.” – The Battle of the Bulge, 70 years later

    It’s been ten years since my grandfather passed away. A career Army officer, he served in three wars: World War II, Korea and Vietnam. It was only after both he and my grandmother died that I began to dig through the old photos, the faded newspaper clippings and award citations that the full scope of his service developed.

Joseph Brigandi from Syracuse, New York, served with Co. L, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. Seventy years ago, in December and January 1944, he was one of thousands of soldiers engaged in battle in the Ardennes forest in the Battle of the Bulge.
