VA supports employees who want to volunteer their time through flexible scheduling, paid time off and a program to help the nation in emergencies.

Volunteers at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center are now able to return. “When they called me, I jumped at the chance right away. I missed being here.” New safety measures have been put in place.

VA volunteer Barbara Abbey was named the winner of a national AARP contest saluting Volunteers across America. Working Monday through Friday, she has volunteered over 1,000 hours so far this year.

Operation Hopi-Tewa Veterans food drive assisted more than 126 Hopi-Tewa Veterans and their families. Over 4,500 lbs. of food, cleaning supplies and water were donated. And $2,000 in Visa gift cards.

VA medical facilities are expanding services and will welcome back our volunteers gradually with several safeguards. We’ve created new volunteer roles, adapted some, and continue to pause others.

Youth volunteers will be “Bridging the Digital Divide” at Charleston VA Medical Center. They will help Veterans with virtual appointments and other technology that not all Veterans are familiar with.

Five nurses from VA Nevada volunteered to go to New Jersey to assist medical staff in nursing homes caring for their high-risk senior population. A Navy Veteran describes their departure.

When school closings caught parents off guard, Salt Lake City VA staff created a free onsite childcare center. Mom and dad can focus on taking care of Veterans knowing their kids are safe … and close.

The Red Coat Ambassador program is well-received by Veterans and their families, a partnership with the American Legion Auxiliary to help in the recruitment of volunteers for this program will be key to its continued success.

Musicians on Call volunteer musicians visit Rocky Mountain Regional every Tuesday evening to perform bedside concerts for Veteran patients. R
