VA’s Center for Women Veterans (CWV) is seeking nominees for the 2023 Women Veteran Trailblazers “Women Making the Difference” Initiative.
The initiative defines a “woman Veteran Trailblazer” as a woman who has served and separated from military service and makes an impact by enhancing the lives of other Veterans, Veteran families or Veteran caregivers. The deadline for nomination packages is Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, and selection will be announced during Women’s History Month, March 2023. The nominees will undergo a selection process that may include an interview.
Successful candidates will define the impact of a single event or action over a period in the following areas:
- Education
- Employment
- Entrepreneurship
- Homelessness
- Legal Assistance
- Mental Health and Wellness
Trailblazers
In 2019, the Center launched the CWV Women Veteran Trailblazers “Women Breaking Barriers” initiative to celebrate women Veterans’ contributions during and after their military service. Fifteen women Veteran Trailblazers representing all branches of service were selected.
The Center received 108 nomination packages for the 2021 CWV Women Veteran Trailblazers “Women Veterans Leading the Way” initiative to celebrate women Veterans’ extraordinary work in Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, Homelessness, Legal Assistance, Mental Health, and Wellness. Twenty-seven women Veterans representing all branches of service were selected.
The campaign highlights the experiences and contributions of women Veterans, and it provides VA with an opportunity to share women Veterans’ stories about how their military service and unique experiences that ultimately led to their continued roles as leaders and advocates in the communities where they live and work.
