You answered the call and fulfilled your mission. Now it’s time to look at what matters most to you. Whole health is about what matters to you most in your life, and it empowers you to take charge and live the life that you want!

Get started on the right foot with the Whole Health Pathway

The Whole Health Pathway consists of partners and volunteers who help you on your journey to whole health. Partners and volunteers include VA employees, Veterans and people in your community who guide you in defining your mission, aspiration or purpose, and setting goals to live your best life.

A two-hour Introduction to Whole Health class provides an overview of the Circle of Health and a look at the Personal Health Inventory. The Taking Charge of My Life and Health course is offered in six to nine sessions and takes a deeper dive into setting goals and taking action.

The Circle of Health and Personal Health Inventory help you look at all areas of your health

The Circle of Health illustrates the big picture connections between your health and other aspects of your life. Whole health opens the door to discuss not only your health conditions but the things that impact your well-being. The equation begins with you, the “Me” at the center of the circle. We start here saying, “I am the expert on my life, values, goals and priorities. Only I know WHY I want my health.” Your story is unique and your whole health journey begins with what matters to you.

The Personal Health Inventory walks you through the eight self-care areas identified on the Circle of Health to help you determine how they affect your health. You will answer questions such as:

  • Are you getting enough sleep at night to refresh your body and mind?
  • Are you eating foods and beverages that will nourish and fuel you?
  • Are you surrounding yourself with people you love and care about?
  • Do you have as much energy and flexibility as you could have?
  • Are you finding opportunities to learn and grow?

Get started today with your whole health journey by visiting the Whole Health website and contacting your local VA to learn more about the Whole Health Pathway and other resources.

I am the survivor of an Air Force Vet, Vietnam era, who passed from related illness from his service.
I am now a disabled senior living alone. I need handicap accessories in and around my home. Especially bathrooms. It is difficult to get in and out of the tub/shower and up and down off the toilet. Steps are also a problem. I have fallen up and down stairs/steps that led to broken bones.
How do I find about getting the accessories I need to live more safe in my home? Thank you.

Looking through these comments, I’m not surprised VA has not responded to anyone. This whole health program is really bad joke. It’s just a re- brand of what VA loves to do. VA loves to ditch any responsibility for anything and dump it on the vet. It’s tragic that VA has a policy creating this bs and forcing vets to participate in nonsensical things such as a religious dogma over providing actual care. That’s VA for you, that might as well call themselves AAFES ( another agency f@&$#%= enlisted soldiers) completely worthless.

The VA is not forcing vets to participate. It’s an option, one you can chose to participate in.

I was not in war time, but I do have pleasant memories of the 3 1/2 years in the air force. I am currently in the VA system, and in 2021 when I had breast cancer surgery, I would have had to file bankruptcy since my surgery and all that goes with it costs a fortune.
Since I belong to 3 garden clubs, I am trying to get a veteran’s garden in place here in Muncie Indiana. Gardening is my 4th love
(Husband, 2 beautiful daughters) this garden would be helpful to those without a space for their own garden.

thank you for helping us who have served our country!!!

I have enjoyed my membership with Millenium Health and Fitness. I check into the yoga classes frequently. It is a complement to the other sports I participate in regularly. Whereas biking and kayaking keep me fit, yoga keeps me limbers and can help with aches and pains that arise.
I do hope that other veterans tune in to the offerings at Millenium.
    Thank you, VA.

I am 100% disable but only get paid 60%. I do not have the transportation or the ability to jump through all the flaming hoops that the VA wants to put me through to receive the other 40%. And guess what meditation doesn’t help.

Veterans should have free access to local gyms as the Silver Sneakers do that are on Medicare. Why don’t we?

  10. Dave Fredericks January 12, 2023 at 16:52

Why doesn’t the (Government) VA allow Veterans to access Silver Sneakers? It would make it easier for veterans to utilize exercise faculties free. Silver sneakers is offered by many insurance company’s who sell Medicare advantage plans. As mentioned below by other veterans, silver sneakers incorporates many benefits mentioned below.

Swimming and Tai Chi are the best exercise for aging bodies
    motivating qualities of togetherness.
    water aerobics class
So much money is wasted on useless study’s. Thank you!

Is there a program for Veterans like “Silver Sneakers?”

  12. michael herbst January 12, 2023 at 13:09

Does anyone ever address these comments?

  13. Rick Jackson January 12, 2023 at 09:46

A vital part of taking advantage of health practices is the motivating qualities of togetherness. Self-directed, at-home functions don’t “motivate”. Transportation & mobility issues further take from any motivation.

Getting medical help is not easy in some areas like STX as you have to travel tp Puerto Rico which is not easy when you are 94 years of age

  15. James Adams January 12, 2023 at 01:28

What a joke this is I am living in the Philippines but not eligible for health care like I was told because I am not disabled

  16. Carl Jackson January 12, 2023 at 01:18

Help paying gym memberships would be very helpful especially for those with limited income and means.

  17. Sue January 11, 2023 at 21:21

Swimming and Tai Chi are the best exercise for aging bodies. Why doesn’t VAMC Portland have in person Tai Chi classes? Or swim classes? They did before Covid, but now they only do Tai Chi classes via webcam. I, like many others, no longer have a computer or space in my home to do Tai Chi. How is it the VA can “no longer afford” to send vets to water aerobics class? That’s what I’ve been told for the last year. We may have gotten a good raise, but we also lost so many of the benefits that were helping us get through our pain.
