VA’s Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs welcomes Mark Trammell as a volunteer “Designer-In-Residence.” Trammell brings 18 years of experience in internet design and user experience research from organizations like Twitter, Sonos, Digg, and will make recommendations and help find creative ways to enhance VA online properties.

Trammell will work with OPIA’s Digital Media Engagement team to provide insight into VA’s digital properties and help optimize the user experience online.  His support to the digital team is one of the ways in which VA is shifting to a user-centered model for design, product development and engagement, while increasing awareness of the care and benefits available to Veterans.

In addition to his technology experience, Trammell is a Veteran, having served in U.S. Navy from 1993-1998. You can find his bio here.

Trammell joins other private sector leaders participating in VA’s “In Residence” program, including Craigslist founder, Craig Newmark, who is currently volunteering as “Nerd-In-Residence” for the VA Center for Innovation.

I am 100% disabled veteran, and approximatly 2 months ago had to have 3 teeth on the left side of my month removed due to bone loss by the VA. I was suppose to have a bridge put in of the 11 November 2013, but the VA called and cancelled the appointment due to the fact whoever was making the bridge was not getting paid, therefore, no telling when I was getting the bridge. I have no teeth on my left side of my mouth, and the VA here in Charleston, SC act as though it is no big deal! I’m 5’4″ and I’m down to 81lbs due to the fact I’m on nothing but soft foods! Is there nothing they can do about this problem, or must I wait until, whoever it is making this bridge finally does get paid and does make this bridge!
I do wish, someone, anyone could update me on this situation! Thank-you!

I think this is a great idea, however, working with homeless veterans, I think we need to look at the fact that most homeless veterans who are trying to connect with the VA do not know how to use the computer or let alone have access to one. We need to focus on not sitting on hold for 45 minutes to get a live person. Most homeless individuals have access to a case manager once a week and for a short time to sit down, get paperwork that is needed, etc. If the VA is focused on ending veteran homelessness like they say, then lets make services for us case managers that are not in the VA easier to help these homeless veterans.
