If you visited our LinkedIn page recently, you may have seen the question, “What area of the country are you looking for work?” Our poll then divided the country into four regions: East Coast, West Coast, Midwest and South.
Over the last few months, we’ve explored the East Coast, and then traveled a little further inland to see what the Midwest had to offer, and gone all the way to the West Coast to see what kind of jobs are out there. In our final regional tour of the country, we’re heading to the South.
Veterans Integrated Service Networks
Veterans’ health care in the United States is separated geographically into 18 regions known as Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs). These regional systems of care work together to better meet local health care needs and provide greater access to care for Veterans.
In the South, there are five VISNs that supervise our facilities in the region:
- VA Southeast Network (VISN 7) in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina
- VA Sunshine Healthcare Network (VISN 8) in Florida and part of Georgia, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands
- VA MidSouth Healthcare Network (VISN 9) covering Kentucky and Tennessee, as well as portions of Arkansas and Mississippi
- South Central VA Healthcare Network (VISN 16) across Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as parts of Texas, Alabama and Florida
- VA Heart of Texas Healthcare System (VISN 17) that provides care to the rest of Texas, as well as portions of Oklahoma and New Mexico
Find your place
Across these four VISNs, numerous jobs are available in all sorts of facilities. For example, there are seven health care systems in VA Heart of Texas Healthcare System, and another seven in VA Sunshine Healthcare Network. In turn, these systems supervise numerous medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics, Vet Centers and more. That means plenty of opportunity for you to join our team.
Here are just a handful of the jobs you’ll find below the Mason-Dixon Line.
- Registered nurses are in high demand at the Columbia VA Health Care System in South Carolina. The facility is looking for RNs to work in the operating room, the intensive care unit, the emergency department and more.
- The Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Florida is looking for a chiropractor to develop and integrate a comprehensive chiropractic program for local facilities and consult on pain management efforts for patients.
- The Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky, is seeking multiple advanced medical support assistants to serve as clerks within the clinic.
- In Biloxi, Mississippi, the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System is looking for a low vision optometrist to provide both inpatient and outpatient Veteran eye care assessments.
- The VA North Texas Health Care System is looking for an addiction therapist to provide evaluation, treatment and other therapeutic activities in Bonham, Texas.
These are by no means the only jobs available at these facilities, but even just this small sample shows that there are hundreds of hands that work together to provide out Veterans with the best possible health care.
