South Texas VA’s nursing staff recently celebrated a second designation as a Pathway to Excellence organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
After being the first VA in the state to receive the designation in 2019, it is once again the first to be re-designated as a Pathway to Excellence organization.
The Pathway designation is a global credential that highlights South Texas VA’s commitment to creating a healthy work environment where nurses feel empowered and valued. Our nurses are an integral part of the health care team with a voice in policy and practice. Pathway nurses are engaged, resulting in higher job satisfaction, reduced turnover, improved safety and better patient outcomes.
“The Pathway to Excellence standards are strongly correlated with improved nurse satisfaction, lower nurse turnover, enhanced interprofessional teamwork and the delivery of high-quality nursing practice,” said Dr. Valerie Rodriguez-Yu, associate director for Patient Care Services. “Our nurses are empowered and engaged in providing exceptional care to our nation’s Veterans. I am incredibly proud of our team and humbled to achieve this designation. I look forward to our continued journey towards excellence.”
“This recognition confirms what we already know. Our nurses rock!”
South Texas VA has one of the lowest nurse turnover rates, exceptional nurse satisfaction ratings and a high number of nurses with advanced degrees and board certification.
As a Pathway organization, South Texas VA leads the effort to enhance quality of care, patient and nursing safety, and the future of health care delivery. Receiving this designation validates the professional satisfaction of our nurses and identifies the facility as one of the best places to work.
“The Pathways journey our nursing team has been on has led to so many wonderful initiatives and accomplishments for Veterans and employees,” said Dr. Julianne Flynn, executive director. “Each and every nurse is a leader in our organization and this re-designation recognition just confirms what we already know, our nurses rock!”
