Are you on the path to becoming a nurse, but don’t know what the future holds? Through VA’s Student Trainee Experience Program (VA-STEP) you can gain valuable on-the-job training that will set you up for future success at a VA facility, and you’ll gain the knowledge of what it means to serve Veterans at the same time.
For more than 20 years, VA-STEP has provided a clinical residency program for nursing students between their junior and senior years. VA-STEP is designed to increase your clinical skills, clinical judgment and critical thinking while opening your eyes to what it means to care for our nation’s Veterans.
Best of all, our facilities have transition programs designed to keep you employed until you are ready to start your residency program, taking you along the path from trainee to a student nurse technician or graduate nurse technician and, ultimately, offering you the chance at full-time employment at VA.
