Commissaries are once again offering significant summer savings on select fresh meat, produce and grilling essentials as part of “The Thrill of The Grill” summer promotion. This year, the promotion was expanded to commissaries worldwide through Sept. 10.

Save on sizzling summer grilling selections

You can quickly identify savings offered to you through this promotion by visiting The Thrill of The Grill landing page and selecting your store. From there, you can view products and pricing by selecting product types listed under a variety of categories, such as Meat & Seafood, Fresh Produce, Spices/Baking, Condiments, Side Dishes, Drinks and more.

Planning your cookout menu

Go ahead, get fired up and plan your next cookout using The Thrill of The Grill shopping list. You can print it off and select the product categories you are interested in on the front. Keep this handy while you browse each of our sales flyers this summer, looking for The Thrill of The Grill icon to spot participating promotions. As you identify the specific products you want, you can write a more detailed shopping list on the back and take it with you to the store.

Grill and keep food safe

Enjoy The Thrill of The grill, but keep food safe with these tips from the USDA:

  • Clean: Wash hands and surfaces often.
  • Separate: Don’t cross-contaminate.
  • Cook: Cook to proper temperatures, checking with a food thermometer.
    • Beef, pork, veal and lamb (steaks, chops, roasts): 145 °F and allow to rest for at least three minutesGround meats: 160 °F
    • Ground poultry: 165 °F
  • Chill: Refrigerate promptly.

    i am an army veteran 1976-1982 i am not retired from the army but i am a vet am i eligible to shop at the commissary i have veteran on my drivers license

    Savings at the commissary are a thing of the past.It is hardly worth the trouble to find any savings at the commissary , especially after a five percent surcharge.

      I disagree, I save alot, and am very thankful for the privilege.
      Pay cash and only should be 1% surcharge

    Am I able to go to the commissary to make purchases, such as groceries. I am a Viet Nam Veteran
    While stationed in Viet Nam, I developed blood clots in both lungs, stayed in hospital almost 8 months until discharged from the Navy and Hospital at same time & date.

    I am a veteran who is 100% disability. I have an id card and want to go to the commissary but I heard that since I don’t drive I have to have someone who also has an id take me. Is this true?

      No. My wife comes with me and is not military at all.
      Get a VA health card and that is all they need to check you out at the register

    Why you tease an old Viet Vet w commissary priviledges, only to get turned away at the gate?
    Should we not all be on the same page, when advising veterans of benefits?
    Now, you might check w superiors before any future erroneous announcements….
    Active duty, service connected retirement, or disability gets you in the gate; but, NOT w/o proper documentation…. which I have yet be issued. If vet is disabled, he/she may be more preoccupied w common, day to day survival; let alone initiating a “No Go” paper chase. Same thing happened years ago when I was given a Time Wasting Runaround by VA, to get my disability claim through. To this day, Nobody admitted any responsibility, for failing/misguiding me at VA.
    Absurd.

    I have tried three times to use the commisary at Fairchild Airforce base. I have 3-pieces of VA Id, stating all the proof you would want that I am a Marine that served honorably. But, the front gate Never lets me through. Wanted to use the travel office also with no luck. Why won’t they let us on the base?

      You need a driver’s license (enhanced) passport or social security card and a VA ID that says service connected. You go to the visitors’ bldg. next to the main gate and they will issue you a pass good for one year. wives of vets can only get a pass for one day (dumb, but that is the policy as of now)

    My son and I attempted to visit the commissary at Hill Air force base in Roy, UT. I presented our VBA credentials yet we were denied entry without any explanation. I think some of the service men are not honoring vets for whatever reason.
    this incident happened on Veterans day 2022.
    I know that many Air Force and Army don’t see us (Marines) as part of the armed forces, I served in Viet Nam and my son served in Afghanistan.

      Depends on what items, Id been tracking all my groceries compared to the local stores near me and Id say I save at least 20% on my total bill
