For many Veterans, military service was a life-changing time that provided the kinds of experiences that few in the civilian world can possibly understand. One of the most enduring aspects of serving is the strength of relationships formed with those who shared those same experiences, often under dangerous and challenging conditions. Re-establishing those bonds by reconnecting Veterans with their former comrades-in-arms served as the main driving force behind the 2003 creation of the Veterans website Togetherweserved.com.

Togetherweserved.com (TWS) was launched specifically to help Veterans find those they served with. Now with more than 2.2 million members in five separate service branch websites, TWS has possibly reconnected more Veterans than any other website or organization. The secret behind this high rate of success is attributed to the depth of TWS’s hand-built databases that contain almost every U.S. military training and operating unit that has ever existed.

Click here to find people you served with.

To find a person he or she served with, all a Veteran must do is enter the basic details of their military service on Togetherweserved.com, including the basic training school they were in and the units, bases, ships or squadrons they were assigned to, along with associated time frames. TWS then automatically looks up all other TWS members who served in the same assignments at the same time. That’s then presented as a list of names that links to their service profile and is ready to connect.

Not only is TWS able to provide every Veteran an excellent chance of reconnecting with old service friends, but it can also be useful in locating personnel who may have been present at an event during their service that impacted their health. Those personnel may be able to provide a witness statement to support a VA benefits claim.

To find all Veterans on Togetherweserved.com who may have served with you, simply click here. Reconnecting with old service members and friends is just a click away!

I’m looking for people I trained with at Army Combat Medic school Ft. Sam Houston, Tx in 1987 with Echo Co. After training I processed in to 491st Medical Co. I enlisted on March 5, 1985 and attended basic training and AIT at Ft. McClellan, Alabama and graduated in July 1985.

My mother, Elizabeth Lea (Schultz) was a Lt. in the US Army Nurse Corp. She said she went from hospital to hospital & didn’t have a unit. Spent time in Wales during WWII.

I was unable to process the search without entering something in the unit box.

Mom sends love to all & says it was an honor to care for so many. She is still caring, smart, healthy & 101.

Your system does not recognize the title of Reactor Operator nor the 33xx series of job code numbers. I was in a unique position where I entered the Nuclear Power program as an Aviation Electronics Technician and retained my Aviation rating through my career. I was the only Aviation Reactor Operator is the whole Navy at the time.

    • TWS Chief Administrator August 28, 2023 at 10:18

David – we do have a full series of 33XX NEC Job Codes from ET-3302 to 3395. What was your specific Job Code for Reactor Operator in case we may be missing your specific one? We’ll be happy to add this.

Thanks for the heads up – TWS Admin.

It was through Together We Served that I was able to link up with CPT Richard Gerry, the Forward Air Controller who saved my life in Việt Nam. Neither one of us knew the other’s name, but comparing his Pilot’s logs from that day and my Distinguished Service Cross citation proved that it was he who covered me when I was alone, severely wounded, and no one knew for sure where I was, except those shooting at me. CPT Gerry always wondered who the guy was and if I survived. Without TWS, he and I would have just been like two ships passing the night on 20 June 1969. We have now become good friends.

Hi Michael – Thanks for the question. TWS is completely free to join and receive all the benefits of Free Membership which include a place to record your entire military history including memories and photographs, active discussion board, Free Military Service Plaque and Shadow Box, receive Reflections and Dispatches Newsletters and updates of new Members who served in your Unit. Also ALL Free Members can look up and contact 5 Friends completely free of charge each month. Full Membership which costs Free Members $9.95 for 1 year is a voluntary option, which is similar to most Military Associations and LinkedIn’s Premium Membership. TWS is run by Veterans for Veterans and doesn’t market its Member’s information as Free websites do. Hope this helps.

It conveniently fails to mention that it costs $9.95 a month to look up friends! What a crock

    • Michael Aaron August 24, 2023 at 14:45

Yes, you’re right. The free part is to get their free periodic TWS newsletter, which to their credit, IS interesting, but to get their Look-Up Service, you must be a PAYING member. This “posting” should NOT be on here AT ALL! It is an Advertisement for their Business. Shame on the “Editors” of this VA Newsletter who let it slip by. They are NOT supposed to be promoting any “For Profit Company” with a free posting on this site. And Shame on the TWS people for taking advantage of it! Scumbags! The editors of this newsletter should take any mention of TWS off of this newsletter immediately. Obviously they haven’t been monitoring the feedback on here at all, and there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to contact them…believe me, I’ve tried! Typical government screwup which would not be tolerated in a private business.

Big Red – Here are the facts about Together We Served (TWS). TWS is a unique place that exists to help Veterans reconnect with those they served with, share in the camaraderie of other Veterans, and create a living legacy of their military service for their family and future generations. Full Membership is a voluntary option, which is similar to most Military Associations and LinkedIn’s Premium Membership, which costs Free Members $9.95 for 1 YEAR not 1 month. TWS is expensive to operate. Free Websites market your information to advertisers or receives support from the tax payer. TWS does neither. Finally TWS employs disabled Veterans who administer our complex and highly professional military website with over 2 million members.

There must be a glitch or an error in this app. After filling out the required information, the site just says unable to………….. and returns to the home page. I was hoping this would work but sadly it didn’t for me. I’ll try again in a few days to see if the problem has been corrected.

The picture is of Special Forces Detachment A-344, 5th Special Forces Group (ABN) 1st Special Forces stationed at Bunard, Việt Nam. The black and white portion was taken at Bunard in June 1969. The color portion was taken at Hot Springs, AR, in October 2000. Pictured from left to right are SFC Charles Hinson (Operations and Intelligence), SFC Carl Cramer (Communications), SFC Daniel Dudley (Weapons), SP4 Robert Pryor (Combat Engineer — me), 1LT John Parda (Detachment Commander), SGT Larry Crile (Medic), and MSG John Nowlan (Team Sergeant). Hinson, Crile, Nolan and I are the only ones still alive.

    • Robert Pryor August 24, 2023 at 12:03

I made a typo on one of the two times I wrote our Team Sergeant’s name. It is spelled with a “w” and should read “Nowlan.”
