What is ATDM?
The ATDM program provides training in high-demand skills that lead to well-paying jobs with military suppliers. Students earn credentials to work in trades that bolster the U.S. defense industry, such as Additive Manufacturing, CNC Machining, Non-destructive Testing, Quality Control Inspection (Metrology) and Welding.
Why?
Global military tech threats are on the rise. To maintain our edge, the U.S. needs workers skilled in technologies that enable faster, reliable production of parts. While the U.S. once had a booming manufacturing sector, it’s now below 12%. Especially for our naval fleets, we need trained hands for the repair, retrofitting and building of submarines. ATDM is a Navy-funded program intended to fill this gap. In just four months, students are prepped for roles in the defense industrial base, much faster than other two-year programs.
Who is eligible?
If you’re at least 18, have a high school diploma or GED, and are a U.S. citizen or have a permanent work visa, you’re set. Just ensure that you’re open to relocating for training and can clear drug and background checks. Not having prior job experience is not a problem. This program welcomes Veterans, military spouses and anyone eyeing a high-demand, well-paying job.
What to expect
Accepted students move temporarily for 16 weeks of training to Danville, Virginia, which is renowned for its budding high-tech workforce and scenic beauty. Classrooms are fitted with state-of-the-art, advanced equipment ready for use on day one. ATDM labs at the premier campus of the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research set students up for success. With its vast equipment range, hands-on training is immediate.
The program is rigorous (600 hours total) but worth it. Along with training, students receive job placement assistance. ATDM routinely brings companies looking to hire to campus. Students can also expect to receive help with resume building and interview preparation. ATDM is there to see students succeed, and the career support is unparalleled.
