Registration for the National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic (NVSSC) opens on Dec. 1, 2023, and runs through March 1, 2024. The 2024 NVSSC will take place August 25-30 in San Diego, California, offering an extended opportunity for Veterans to partake in adaptive sports.

Eligible Veterans can apply to attend the 2024 Summer Sports Clinic by going to www.summersportsclinic.va.gov. All accepted Veterans will be eligible to receive a free round trip airline ticket to attend through the generous support of Fisher House Foundation Hero Miles.

Entering its 17th year, VA’s National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic is a rehabilitative and educational hands-on sporting event for eligible Veterans from across the country who have a range of disabilities to engage in an array of activities, including kayaking, surfing, sailing, cycling and adaptive fitness. Each sport will be tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of the participating Veterans.

Participation in the Summer Sports Clinic is not only a chance for Veterans to engage in fun and challenging activities, it also offers a support network and sense of camaraderie that can be transformative. Veterans who have attended previous clinics rave about the positive impact it has had on their physical health and mental well-being, noting that the experience provides a renewed sense of purpose and community.

This event is not only a celebration of the resilience of our Veterans but also a testament to the power of adaptive sports. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this life-changing experience. A really cool clinic would be for veterans with some level of disability be able to attend and have a path to sports officiating.

I have tried to sign up for the last 4 years and have never heard back from anyone, I have been told by other Native Americans that they also tried to sign up but again never heard back from anyone so we have come to believe that your organization don’t want Native Americans to participate

As mentioned in the article, the Fisher House Foundation is paying for the round trip airfare. It is a wonderful organization, assisting veterans’ families at VA hospitals with room and board while the veteran is a patient. The foundation probably funds other events also, of which I am not aware. What a great opportunity for qualified veterans!

I am 76 years old and I currently hold all the powerlifting records for my age group and weight class (181.7 lbs) for the United States Association of Powerlifters (USAPL). I am qualified for and am going to the USAPL Masters World Cup, 2024 in Memphis, Tenn. May 11 and 12. If the Sports clinic can give me an edge in the competition, I would like to go. If not, that’s okay.

This is the type if response that makes me ashamed of our community sometimes. Really? Spouse and kids? Did it mention anything about them? Anything else you’d like for free besides airfare and a free event?
