Burnout is a very real concern among federal employees, particularly health care workers. A recent Gallup study found that more than 26% of federal employees say they feel burned out at work, which can result in higher attrition rates as people choose to leave for what they perceive as greener pastures.

At VA, what we’ve learned is that focusing on what matters to you and giving you the tools you need to succeed is the path to less stress and higher job satisfaction.

“Where else can you practice meaningful, team-based and comprehensive primary care in a manner that serves a higher purpose while also maintaining your individual life-work balance?” asked (rhetorically) Dr. Dhruv Gadhia, deputy associate chief of staff of the Ambulatory and Emergency Care Clinical Center (AECCC) at VA Maryland Health Care System.

With attrition rates that are lower than expected, we believe that VA is on the right path to keeping our dedicated team members happy and fulfilled in service to the most important mission in all of health care—serving Veterans.
