My comment is about Hiring Vets, I’ve tried several times to apply for jobs that say they hire vets which are government agencies and even offer the disabled vet point preference. These jobs I’ve applied for fell within my qualifications as I’ve earned my Bachelors Degree in Information Systems and Cybersecurity and Associates Degree in Network Systems Administration. I have worked in the Identity Access Management field for 5 and half years now and it seems that any time I’ve applied for these Government jobs putting that you have a Service connect disability is more of a red flag for them not to hire you than anything. I never get any further communication from these places after submitting my applications, just seems like a cruel joke, I honestly believe it is who you know rather than your merits or qualifications. Even the VA jobs have some unrealistic expectations for my career field when it comes to qualifications, if anybody was to actually read that they would see it is ridiculous. They more or less are saying that you need a PhD as a requirement in your field for qualification, nobody in the tech career is going to have a damn PhD at a GS-11/12 level job of experience, what the hell are they thinking? This just seems like they are putting the job out there but truly do not want anybody to meet the requirements because they are not really expecting to hire.
This is the same kind of thing that is being seen in big companies also, where they promise their employees that they are recruiting for new hires to help with workload for the existing employees but don’t intend on actually hiring anybody so they don’t actually hire any of the people that actually apply for the job. Same goes for any of these Government contracted employers that talk a good game about hiring vets yet the moment you put down that you are a disabled vet you have just basically shot yourself in the foot. When you put down that you are a disabled vet and you submit the forms to prove this they should not be asking in the Application what your Disability is specifically so it shows up right off the bat on your Application so it makes it easier for them to by-pass you when they skim over the Applications. You already submit the VA Letter showing that you were granted a service connected disability as proof. But because there is no definitive way of proving it, you could never say it was discrimination is the reason that your Application was never considered.
