The 2014 Olympic Winter Games begin on Friday and it’s hard to deny the excitement they inspire around the world. It’s the connection of people from all over competing together toward a common goal. Whether a summer or winter Olympic enthusiast, we may only see our favorite sports once every four years, and that anticipation adds to the thrill of the games.

In the 2012 Summer Olympics, one of our very own VA employees, Natalie Dell, and her teammates, medaled in the Women’s Quad Scull Olympic Final. Shortly after the Games, Natalie was happy to help raise awareness for VA’s Mental Health Hiring Initiative, stating “I’m honored to be part of the team that supports Veterans.” Natalie appeared in a Public Service Announcement that aired nationwide to encourage skilled mental health professionals to consider a career at VA.

The champion takes a break from filming to show off her "bling."

There’s no doubt that Olympians like Natalie are highly talented athletes, but what keeps them competing is attitude, grit and determination. Not every race is a winner, and not every step you take toward your career will get you there, but persistence and a good attitude can make you a champion too. If you have a desire to give back to our Nation’s heroes and work with Veterans, find out what it takes to hone your skills and get you the job of your dreams.

Like Natalie says, “As an Olympic medal winner, I know that the real champions are those who served this country. And, so does VA.”
