Veterans who have at least a 30% combined VA disability rating can now use eBenefits to apply to add a dependent to their compensation award. Part 1 of this two-part video series walks through the step-by-step process for adding a dependent spouse and child under the age of 18 through eBenefits. VA strongly recommends that Veterans file their dependency claim through eBenefits, even if they already have a paper claim pending.
Filing online gives Veterans a faster, and in some cases a same day response, and allows VA payments to begin more quickly. Start your online dependency claim today at http://www.ebenefits.va.gov.

What they don’t tell you in this video is that unless you are miraculously chosen for an automatic decision, it will take a year or two for them to add dependents. I don’t understand why it has to be done this way. I have education benefits and healthcare benefits through the VA and they have my dependents on my file. It took all of about 5 minutes for each of those departments to add them. First, why can’t they all use the same database for dependents? Second, why does it have to be done like a disability claim? why can’t you just type them in to your computer instead of making us wait for months on end?
