At VA, we recognize that employees are our most valuable assets. Dedicated and high-performing employees across the country are making a difference every day by fulfilling VA’s mission “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.” Those who are committed to public service deserve thanks for working diligently on behalf of our citizens. Public Service Recognition Week (PRSW), May 3-9, is a time to honor these public servants who provide critical care and service that our Nation’s heroes have earned.
In a recent message on the 150th Anniversary of President Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald said, “(VA’s) is the noblest mission supporting the greatest clients of any agency in the country. We answer that mission every day by living our I CARE Values.”
The core values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence (I CARE) are present throughout VA, in interactions between employees and patients, as well as between colleagues at all levels. In his message, McDonald noted that VA must continue to invest in the success of its employees in providing proactive, personalized, patient-driven care.
“It’s about improving our employees’ experiences…We want to focus on our people so we can best serve Veterans. We’re going to improve internal support services and enhance our strategic partnerships. And we’re establishing a culture of continuous improvement so those of you at the front lines of service can correct problems you identify more immediately. Then, we can replicate your proven solutions across all facilities,” said McDonald.
VA employees are doing important work that positively affects all of us every day. This week, we would like to take the time to thank every one of our valued employees and Veterans for all they do on behalf of our Nation. VA witnesses remarkable contributions to our Veterans each and every day. To these public servants: your hard work does not go unnoticed!
This week, take the time to thank employees across all federal, state and local governments whose public service makes such a difference in our Nation.
