If you’ve ever worked in a hospital, urgent care center or with private practice specialists, chances are you have worked with someone who received their training at a VA hospital. In 2013, more than 118,000 health care professionals in training rotated through a VA Medical Center. That’s more than 30 percent of our given full-time employee population – every year.

For physicians who are new to the profession, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has an easy way to transition out of residency into a full-time career at facilities across the Nation. VHA has more than 150 hospitals and more than 800 community-based outpatient clinics.

Our diverse population of Veterans will give you the opportunity to make an impact that furthers your career and, more importantly, our Veterans’ lives. Once your training concludes, you will be able to find a setting that will best fit your skill set, allowing you to pursue specialty fellowships or academic appointments.

Complementary to any academic appointment, research has always been a large component of the VA physician experience. VA conducts thousands of studies, offering opportunities for anything from case studies to large-scale epidemiological research, through both nationally funded grants as well as intramural funding opportunities.

Deciding your career path is a difficult decision with many different factors to consider. But as the Nation’s largest health care system, VA has options that fit your life and career. Go to VAcareers.va.gov/TACLVA to take your first step toward a career at VA.
