As VA facilities across the country opened their doors to their local communities, one facility in Louisiana went a step farther.

On Aug. 3, the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System held a career fair to draw in potential candidates for nearly 1,000 jobs to be filled over the next few years. More than 1,000 people attended the career fair, including about 150 Veterans.

Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System career fair

The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System held a career fair on Aug. 3, 2015. More than 1000 applicants attended.

VA staff also conducted interviews on site with local media. Here’s a report form WWL-TV on the event. Also in attendance were representatives from other VA organizations – the National Cemetery Administration, the Veterans Benefits Administration, VA’s National Recruitment and Retention Center, Veterans service organizations and VA for Vets.

VA’s mission of serving Veterans was one of the reasons so many attended the fair. One Veteran said he wanted to work at VA because, “I was homeless and VA saved my life. ‎It would mean the world to me to come back and serve VA,” he said.
