Calling all artists! The 2016 National Veterans Day Poster Contest is underway.
Every year, VA’s National Veterans Outreach Office, in conjunction with the Veterans Day National Committee, publishes a commemorative Veterans Day poster. The poster is selected from artwork submitted by artists nationwide and is distributed to VA facilities, military installations around the world and across cities and towns in our nation. It also serves as the cover of the official program for the Veterans Day observance at Arlington National Cemetery.
Over the years these posters have illustrated the rich history of our country’s Servicemembers. The winning posters clearly reflect our pride and patriotism in saluting Veterans while providing the thematic artistry for the year.
Poster guidelines, submissions must:
- Be 18” x 24” at 300 dots per inch, scale down submissions to 9”x12.”
- Represent Veterans from all branches of service. The committee may select a particular submission but ask the artist to make modifications to the original design. Additional changes may be required prior to printing.
- Reflect the diversity of our Veteran and military population in terms of race, gender and disability status.
- Include sufficient information to demonstrate that the image is the work of the artist and is not copyrighted material (i.e. photos and concepts).
Submit electronic versions as jpg images or PDF files by email to vetsday@va.gov or send copies of artwork on a CD with artwork files to:

Submissions are not restricted to human-centric presentations, such as a joint color guard. Imagery of American icons, monuments or scenery can qualify, for example, the American flag. To view examples of past winning submissions visit our past poster gallery.
The deadline for submissions is Apr. 15, 2016. A selection committee will convene in May 2016 to review submissions and make a final selection.

A personal reflection on generational service from VA Deputy Assistant Secretary Aaron Scheinberg.
This is a Major Fail of our Military and Government. We are willing to defend our country by offering our lives to ensure the safety of our countrymen but are denied the help we need. Our Government is willing to send millions of dollars overseas to help other countries feed their people, immunize against disease, and help arm militaries. They should spend our hard earned money on our fellow countrymen and Veterans first.
I have been waiting years for my appeal. I was told I would have an answer in July 2015, it never happened. I am being denied 100% disability because I am unemployable due to my service connected (hearing loss) disability. They say I can find gainful employment regardless. Not so, I am (was) an educator but I have tried for any kind of job out there; even working in the horse stables shoveling manure, washing dishes, waiting, etc. I am always told I would be a danger to myself, others and the company because I would not hear the warnings if something were to go wrong. But the Almighty appeals board people think not. Now, I am an old man and it makes it twice as hard to find work. I think they are waiting for me to die before they make a decision. I can’t survive on 40%. I was denied compensation for “Depression”, a “Pension”, and my “Hearing Loss.” I wrote to my Congress person, Mr. Lobiondo but he has never answered me. Perhaps, he too is waiting for me to die.
Good Morning Mr. Lucciola:
Please [contact me] and I will reach out to my friend Commissioner Mike Roby with Veterans Affairs he is a retired SGM maybe he can help me help you.
Warmest regards,

i got injured in Vietnam, i was denied because they could not find records of my injury. upon my return I was suffering PTSD and went to Highland Park Mental Hygiene Clinic for treatment. The clinic suggested that I send for my military records from St. Louis, Missouri.
My records had copies of my treatment from head injuries I received in at the field hospital where I was treated in Pleiku, S. Vietnam. Can I file again?
Good Morning Mr. Dumas Sr:
Yes, Sir you can refile again now that you have new documents to support your past claim. If you need help any Veteran Service Organization like the American Legion, VFW, DAV, MOPH has services officers at each post or chapter to help veterans with filing claims.
Warmest regards,
