The MyVA Advisory Committee (MVAC) met at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center this week to discuss the progress and success of VA’s ongoing MyVA transformation.
VSO representatives shared their insights at MVAC meeting in Pittsburgh
The committee heard from front line staff in Pittsburgh, customer service experts, Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations and other strategic partners. Three key themes through the meeting were leveraging strategic partnerships, communicating the success of VA and maintaining pace through the presidential transition.
“On Jan. 21, 2017, there will be Veterans that need care,” a committee member said. “No matter what happens on November 8, the VA will not waver from the mission to care for those that ‘shall have borne the battle.'”
Before the meeting began, Secretary Bob McDonald talked to innovators who are making important improvements to how VA provides health care and the technology we use. One of those innovations was a pneumatic scooter shown in the video above. According to Dr. Rory Cooper, the director of Human Engineering Research Laboratories at University of Pittsburgh, the pneumatic scooter runs on compressed air, is water proof, and does not require recharging. This scooter is a great example of how VA is not only a source of health care, but a source of success by aiming to provide its customers the best experience both in and out of the hospital.
The MVAC meets quarterly and is comprised of a variety of advocates and leaders in healthcare, business, education and the Veterans community. It’s through these meetings that Secretary McDonald, Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson and Under Secretary for Heath Dr. David Shulkin introduce, promote and receive input on effective policy throughout VA.
MyVA focuses on five objectives:
- Improving the Veteran experience
- Improving the employee experience
- Improving internal support services
- Establishing a culture of continuous improvement
- Enhancing strategic partnerships.
