On July 3, VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System celebrated the spirit of ’76 during its third annual Independence Day parade honoring Veterans who reside in our Community Living Center.
The Golden Triangle Performance Ensemble returned to perform its “Judges Stand” routine and accompany Veterans around campus in a parade set to patriotic music.

Golden Triangle Director Lee Kumer said performing for Veterans is one of the highlights of the team’s year.
Demonstrating our love and support
“Performing for the Vets, and leading them in their parade, is an amazing opportunity for the entire Golden Triangle organization,” said Kumer. “It allows our performers, as well as their parents, to see firsthand these men and women who have fought for our country and our freedom. It also enables all of us to demonstrate our love and support for these wonderful individuals who are so often forgotten or overlooked.”
Loud and proud…with tears
Founded in 1963, the Golden Triangle organization offers baton-twirling, dance, rifle, color guard training and multiple performance opportunities to young people between the ages of 6 and 22. The group’s history includes a performance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“The best part of our parade is watching our residents sing their service anthems loud and proud, many with tears in their eyes,” said Sue Delanko, a VAPHS rehabilitation therapist who assists with Golden Triangle events.
“You can see their pride and their emotion as our employees clap and cheer as they parade around the campus,” Delanko said. “It’s a special moment for all of us, who become their family when they live here.”
