Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran James Gordon Chambers. James served from 1967 to 1969 on active duty in Vietnam, followed by four years in the Coast Guard.

In Vietnam, James attended Motor Transport School and worked as a truck driver. He was part of the 1st Medical Battalion, which dropped into hotspots or other units when reinforcement was needed. His unit received many unit citations, including the Vietnamese Presidential Unit Citation. In February 1969, James was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V for bringing Marines to safety during the Tet Offensive.

After his service in Vietnam and the Coast Guard, James worked for the Department of Corrections and as a dean warden. He is now a member of several organizations for Native Americans in the military.

Thank you for your service, James!
