Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Georgieanna Dankulich Scowden. Georgieanna served from 1973 to 1976 during the Vietnam War.
After boot camp in Orlando, Florida, Georgieanna went to Great Lakes, Illinois for hospital corps school. She was then stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego in a surgical intensive care unit. Georgieanna worked in a trauma unit for six months before going to operating room technician school. She cared for many patients during her time in the Navy and was well-trusted by her patients and colleagues.
Georgieanna was the second female in Great Lakes to be on Honor Guard and the second female to work in the Surgical Intensive Care/Trauma Unit. She was also the first female surgical technician at Lemoore, California. Georgieanna passed away on Jan. 25, 2012 at the age of 62.
We honor her service.
