Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran Diane Ahrens. Diane served from 1978 to 1980.
Diane joined the Marines in the late 1970s and served as a military police officer at Parris Island, South Carolina. After nearly three years of service she returned to civilian life. She now lives in Dundee, Illinois with her husband, who is also a Veteran. Diane serves as President at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2298 in Dundee.
In addition to her role with VFW, Diane has organized and thrown baby showers for expecting Veterans for the last three years. The events require planning and collaboration with community partners to make the showers memorable. Diane’s most recent baby shower in January 2018 was for 30 women Veterans and was featured in VFW magazine. All 30 women were gifted important items for their upcoming parenthood. She also helped to raise thousands of dollars for gifts for the Hines VA National Baby Shower on May 11, 2018.
Diane and her husband also opened Piece-A-Cake Bakery in 1994 and have run it ever since.
Thank you for your service, Diane!
