VA has selected Delta Dental of California and MetLife to once again offer private insurance coverage for the VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP).

Veterans who are enrolled in the VA health care system and beneficiaries and their dependents of the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the VA (CHAMPVA) can enroll in the program beginning Monday, November 12, 2018, for coverage to start December 1, 2018.

VADIP is insurance for Veterans who are not eligible for dental care through VA (e.g. less than 100% service connected). This insurance requires a premium and copays.

VADIP offers eligible individuals the opportunity to purchase discounted dental insurance coverage that includes diagnostic services, preventive services, endodontic and other restorative services, surgical services, and emergency services.

Participants pay entire premium and copays

Each individual covered by the dental insurance plan will pay the entire premium for coverage under the dental insurance plan, in addition to the full cost of any copays.  Enrollment is voluntary and does not affect eligible individuals’ entitlement to existing VHA outpatient dental services and treatment.

Coverage for VADIP dental services is provided in the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Multiple plan options allow individuals to select a plan that provides benefits and premiums that meet their dental needs and budget.

I signed up for the VADIP program through Delta Dental last year but found out that the I couldn’t use it on any major service, like the root canal I need, until I’ve paid into the program for 1 full year. Therefore, this insurance is unless if you need want work down urgently and can’t wait the full year. When I found about the waiting period, I tried to the cancel the insurance, but I couldn’t since you are obligated to program for 1 full year…basically, I’ve been paying $48.47 per month since January 2018 for nothing.

In reality, Metlife doesn’t cover implants. When implants are requested Metlife says they only
cover implants if there is no other alternative. However there is always an alternative, it’s called DENTURES.
Metlife how many requests have you had for implants and how many denials since being approved by the VA?
If in fact you never cover implants, say so in your literature in BOLD PRINT.

If you were enrolled in the Tricare Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) dental then you should have received a letter or email about the choices that you have. Go to http://www.tricare.benefeds.com. That is the web site to get you started. Self plus one means you and some one else…wife, friend or what ever. It was the newly added choice to avoid paying the family fee for only 2 people. Good Luck. AIM HIGH!!

I went to the VA for my yearly cleaning. Years ago I had three implants put in at a cost of over $2000 an implant. One of the implants went bad and I removed in myself. I asked the VA dentist if they could put a bridge in, she indicated that it would not be wise and that I needed an implant. She told me most likely when she sends up the request to a dental board they would disapprove the request because of my age. So now I’m haveing the work done at a local dentist . So my question is who needs the better dental work a young man or an older one.

So…if i want to insure my wife, i cant use this plan correct? If we use the federal employees plan being offered right now, Metlife offers a “high” plan that is cheaper than this plan.
    So. Whats the difference?
Complaints about care from 15 years ago is a moot point.
If I am a retired veteran, receiving disability, what would one suggest? Ive called the VA and a federal facility to ask questions. For example, as for rates, the DD plan is for, ” one veteran” or ” one veteran plus a second veteran.” No dependents???? The Metlife plan lists “veteran” and “veteran plus one”. Does that mean under the Delta plan , no dependent and under the Met plan , i can insure my spouse??? No one could explain this to me. Thank you once again VA for the crystal clear guidelines.
So are we talking care for VA health care enrollees only for this plan, and only military retirees for the fedplan? No one was able to answer me. ” the va is a seperate entity…..” “This plan is for VA health system personnel only.” My question was, why two separate plans, one appears go disallow dependents, ghe other plan includes them.
Cant get an answer from the fricken VA. SNAFU

Wayne…you wife is included with “Veteran plus One.” Your wife is the “One.” I don’t remember the other categories but if you have kids they can be covered also.

I did have Delta Dental Ins. around 15 years ago, went in for a bridge by one of their providers which was put in wrong. Called Delta which sent me to another ‘provider’ in their network. He ground off part of the bridge poorly and I needed to have a real Dentist remove and replace the bridge. I would not recommend Delta to anyone since they failed to be Professional, and gave me a runaround.
