This week, VA Secretary Eric Shinseki met with National Franchise business leaders in Atlanta to promote Veteran employment. The effort was the part of the Obama Administration’s Joining Forces Initiative, which aims for a simple yet important goal: To connect our Veterans and their families with meaningful employment.

Secretary Shinseki talked about a win for everyone involved; a win for employers that receive great, disciplined, and hardworking employees and Veterans, who have the ability to achieve their goals out of uniform.

It’s all part of a plan to support Veterans, as the President said in the State of the Union, “so that America is as strong as those who defend her.”

The International Franchise Association has pledged to hire and recruit 75,000 Veterans and their spouses by 2014. With the example they set, I hope it’s a trend that continues across America.

Secretary Shinseki has made a strong case for Veterans in the workplace. “They make exceptional employees and business leaders,” he told the collection of business leaders in Atlanta. “Let’s hire them. Let’s find them work.”

I find that conferences are being held everywhere except where they need to be. Say for example Illinois, better yet Chicago. Politics needs to be removed when dealing with Veterans benefits, rights and lively hood. Families are in jeopardy of suffering and are not feeling the support they should receive.

Also, commenting on an article will not get the word to the top where it belongs. Then again, when correspondence is sent to the top, they are never answered. So how can anyone say how many veterans are unemployed, homeless, or even alive? They can’t because there is nothing in place that is being used to make contact with them, find them nor support those who need it and deserve it.

Let’s see those patriotic American corporations (especially those that get billions of dollars in government contracts) hire more Veterans to fulltime employment and America will be a greater country. Veterans know how to work as a team for the better of the “company.”

Sir, I beleive that the VA can do a better job at hiring vets that are qualified

I agree. The VA is not hiring the way they should. Discriminatory acts are being conducted by VA senior hiring officials against decorated veterans and OIG doesn’t even care. It is a darn shame! Hiring interns and friends are priority. Cronyism is
      alive and well.
