A VA Vet Center rededication ceremony was held to honor the memory of former North Ogden mayor and Utah National Guardsman Maj. Brent Taylor.
The center, which offers a wide range of community-based social and psychological services to Veterans and their families in northern Utah, will now be known as the “Major Brent Taylor Vet Center Outstation.”
Taylor was deployed to Afghanistan for his fourth tour when he was killed in action on Nov. 3, 2018 in Kabul. He was the first Utah mayor to take a leave of absence to deploy while still in office. Taylor’s widow, Jennie, addressed the gathering of Veterans and local residents with a moving speech that highlighted her husband’s legacy of love and service.
“It was indeed his greatest honor to put on that American uniform,” she said. “To have the flag on his shoulder and to be able to be called an American soldier and to do what so many were willing to do before him.”
Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, was also on hand during the ceremony.
“This is more than just putting a plaque on the wall,” he said. “The reason of putting a name on a building is to remember that individual and the characteristics that he gives to all of us. Brent Taylor was a hero. He was a hero to his family, he was a hero to his community, he was a hero to this nation.”
The bill to rename the Vet Center was introduced by Bishop and was later signed into law by President Donald Trump.

As a Vietnam vet 1968-1969 I could not agree more with your statement. When I needed to see my cardiologist when the VA had none near me and the choice program ended. They denied my request. The VA is not all bad but a overhaul is well overdo.
Let me not forget to honor Major Brent Taylor for his love of this country and his sacrifice for the USA. My prayers are for his wife and children. May the Lord bless you richly as you move through your grief.
