VA’s Women’s Health Transition Training (WHTT) is underway. Women have attended more than 15 training sessions at military bases in the U.S. and overseas. Locations include Norfolk, Va.; Fort Bliss, Texas; Okinawa and Yokosuka, Japan; and the Pentagon. The biggest turnout was at Kitsap-Bremerton, Wa., with almost 30 class participants.
For the first 18 months, the program was a pilot with 74 in-person training sessions offered at multiple sites across all military services. Due to the popularity of this pilot among transitioning service women, this initiative became a permanent VA program. The national rollout of the program for fiscal year 2020 has expanded the training to 100 in-person and 18 virtual training sessions at 38 sites across the country and overseas.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all training sessions through May will be virtual.
In-depth training on health care for women
More than 150 service women have received training this year. All training is led by a woman Veteran who actively uses VA health care services.
Many participants have expressed great appreciation for the WHTT training. “I feel like I’m on a better path for the transition process. I felt like I was floating, but now have a plan. This was an eye-opener,” said one participant. Another said, “It definitely took the mystery out of everything. It’s good to know what options are out there and what I can expect.”
The training offers valuable information about how to enroll in VA benefits. It also provides an in-depth briefing on women’s health care services available through VA. Those services go beyond general preventative care and wellness.
Visit www.va.gov/womenvet/whtt for more information about training topics.
Service women are encouraged to attend an in-person or virtual training event that fits their schedule. The virtual training, live events led by a trainer, gives participants the flexibility to join from any time zone. Participants can access the training from their computer and dial in from their phone. Participants are not limited to training events in their own time zone.
Prepare for your future and register for an upcoming training today at www.va.gov/womenvet/whtt. Again, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all training sessions through May will be virtual.
