Air Force Veteran Raymond Miller is today's Veteran of the Day.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Raymond Miller, who has devoted his life to helping fellow Veterans transition from military to civilian life.

Raymond Miller was only 19 years old when he enlisted, serving for 14 years. He said he had an obligation to support those making the ultimate sacrifice.

After his service, Miller began working for the VA as a clerk. Passionate about the Veteran community, he went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in social and political science from the Evergreen State College and a master’s in clinical psychology from City University of Seattle. He said he knew what it was like to be a distressed Veteran, and he wanted to help in any way that he could. Miller completed his certification as a chemical dependency counselor from Seattle College. He then became a nationally certified Veteran service officer and Veteran advocate.

Miller represented Veterans when filing claims for benefits and discharge upgrade services. He has helped thousands of Veterans and their families go from homelessness to securing long-term housing. As a national Veteran service officer, Miller has worked to obtain over benefits and services on behalf of Veterans and their families. He also helped Veterans get into the VA system, get psychiatric evaluations, receive treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and whatever else they might have needed.

Miller is a founding member of the National Association of Black Veterans. Miller is also the founder and president of Vets Place Northwest-Welcome Home, which helps Veterans transition from military to civilian life and counsels Veterans on the benefits and services they’ve earned through their service.

He officially retired in February 2015. He said, “if they come to me, get my phone number and give me a call, I’m going to keep putting them in the right place … Those are our brothers and sisters.”

Thank you for your service!
