Army Veteran Richard Schuch is today's Veteran of the Day.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Richard Schuch, who retires today as a civilian from the Professional Education Center.

Richard Schuch Jr. was born in Chicago in 1961. He enlisted in 1985 and did his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Schuch completed Advanced Training as a Communications Specialist at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and retired in 2006 at the rank of sergeant first class.

Schuch deployed for Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, he extended past his 20-year retirement date to deploy a subsequent time for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also completed a tour in South Korea as well as two tours in Germany.

During his active duty service, Schuch received numerous medals and commendations. These awards included a Bronze Star Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, multiple Army Commendation Medals, multiple Army Achievement Medals and an Air Assault Badge. Also, Schuch received the Order of Saint Barbara for demonstrating the highest standards of integrity, professional competence and moral character as well as for his selflessness.

Following his active duty retirement, Schuch became an instructor at the Professional Education Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. As an instructor, Schuch trained Guard soldiers on satellite and communication systems and served as a test control officer. He continued his service with the Army as a civilian by providing training based on his expertise from his many years in the service.

For his time at the Professional Education Center he received his Master Instructor Certification, two Department of the Army Civilian Service Medals and the Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service. Additionally, he earned Instructor of the Quarter in 2018. Schuch retires today from the Professional Education Center.
