- We often mention the Veterans Crisis Line and how it has saved lives, but this video really drives home the enormous effort from dedicated folks to staff the calls day and night. And as always, the Crisis Line can be reached at 1-800-273-8255, online through chat, and now by text at 838255.
- June is PTSD Awareness Month, so we’re asking that you take the step and learn to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health struggles.
- A new breed of Veterans group has cropped up in recent years, emphasizing community service as a mode for reintegration after the service. Check out TIME’s recent cover story on it to learn how you can get involved here at home.
- The US Chamber of Commerce has been holding Hire Our Heroes hiring fairs for months, and there are still plenty to come. Check out the national events through July.
- On June 28, 2005, a SEAL-led reconnaissance mission in Kunar Province, Afghanistan was ambushed during Operation Red Wings. Following the attack, 8 SEALs and 8 soldiers were killed when their Chinook was shot down while attempting to rescue the SEAL team. Lt. Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the ambush.
