Physician recruitment has been a topic for the last 20 years in America. Recent Studies suggest physician shortages will continue for several years to come. However, individual work life desires are changing and VA could be a good fit for many. See what VA Dr. Zollo has to share.
Rewards that last a lifetime.
“As a Primary Care Physician at VA, my experience has been—and continues to be—a truly rewarding one. For almost 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving those who have served our Nation, as part of a team in which everyone is committed to delivering the best possible care. I’ve found Veterans to be the most wonderful and appreciative people to work with, and it feels amazing to have the opportunity to give back to them. After all, my father and grandfather are former service members, which is one of the main reasons I decided to join VA.”
“When I helped open the Charles Wilson VA Outpatient Clinic in March of 1991, I worked to improve clinical service for Veterans by adopting a primary care approach. This involved the implementation of a computerized patient records system (among other initiatives), which has resulted in expedited clinical processes and higher patient satisfaction. Another noteworthy aspect of this clinic is the longevity of its employees. Until 2010, I never had to recruit a new physician for the team I developed 20 years ago. Nearly all of our current staff members have been here since day one, and that says a lot about how much we truly enjoy working here.”
“And why wouldn’t we enjoy working here? With fewer than 60 employees, we’re a close-knit team, even family-like—something that’s hard to find in bigger hospitals. Our rural setting provides comfortable surroundings that make us feel at home. What’s more, we have the advantage of being a private practice without having any concern for billing or insurance coverage. There are many administrative and reimbursement issues that come with running a typical private practice, but it’s different here. We deliver services to Veterans based on their comprehensive needs—not on billing considerations—which allows us to be true patient advocates.”
“Because of all this and much more, I am absolutely grateful to be a part of VA. It has been an experience of a lifetime, and I look forward to continuing my service to Veterans for years to come.”
“If you’re an experienced Primary Care Physician who’s looking for a way to give back to Veterans in a rural setting, send your contact information to VHAplacementservice@va.gov. They will pass the info to me so we can discuss your potential future in VA. I’m always happy to talk about the amazing opportunities we have available for talented, compassionate professionals like you.”
