CampV, the Community Assisting Military Personnel and Veteran Resources Center, will offer housing, therapy and more to improve outcomes for Veterans, families, and caregivers in Tyler, Texas, beginning on November 11th, 2019.
The 20-acre camp is operated by the East Texas Veterans Community Council (ETVCC) Community Veterans Engagement Board and has nine existing buildings that are being renovated, along with plans for additional structures.
CampV plans to offer equine and canine therapy, a chapel, gymnasium, women’s retreat, and a host of other resources.
“CampV has really evolved into a whole health approach. It’s addressing the mental issues, also physical fitness,” Community Veteran Engagement Board Chairwoman Susan Campbell said. “We understand the suicide rate is unacceptable, I lost two friends to suicide, my heart is sad because of that, and we want to make a difference.”
The first nine providers to be located on the property are the Andrews Center, Green Zone, Department of Veterans Affairs (Benefits), Texas Veterans Commission, Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Heroes Animal Assisted Therapies Ranch, Dog University, National Alliance of Mental Illness, and PTSD USA.
The entire project is expected to take four years to complete. Construction of phase one is currently underway:
