Angela Tyler was born in Chicago, Illinois. She was sworn into the Army on Oct. 25, 1982. During her time in service, she has served as a squad leader, a platoon sergeant, a clerk typist and a personnel management specialist.
On Aug. 28, 1991 she was called from the Army Reserves and deployed to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. While stationed at the Khobar Towers in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, she oversaw tasks like the in- and out-processing of service members coming in and out of the country.
Additionally, she deployed from 1995 through 1996 to Fort Benning, Georgia. There, she helped soldiers that were in- and out-processing through the Soldier Readiness Processing Station from the war in Bosnia. She later deployed to another Soldier Readiness Processing Station to support servicemembers in-processing and out-processing during Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom.
Tyler received several awards and decorations. These include an Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and NCO Professional Development Ribbon.
Tyler retired from the Army Reserves in 2003 with over 20 years of service. She went on to earn an associate of arts, associate of applied science and bachelor of art degree.
