Tucson VA is hosting its annual Stand Down, August 18, 2021.
The Stand Down offers homeless Veterans a break from the harsh conditions of life on the street. Other services will include pet care, vaccinations, licensing, and spay and neuter vouchers.
There will be 40 resource tables and lunch will be served.
Active Duty military, Guard and Reserve can also participate in the Resource Fair.
The event will be at the Grand Luxe Hotel Event Center
In active service, a Stand Down is a necessary mental and physical break from combat. Military personnel spend a few days in a safe place to rest and recuperate before returning to the front lines.
This Stand Down aims to reach as many of those homeless Veterans and Veterans at risk of becoming homeless as possible, connecting them to services that will allow them to get on the path to self-sufficiency.
Many agencies and volunteers make it happen
Tucson Veterans Serving Veterans (TVSV) is an all-volunteer local non-profit working with federal, state and local government, Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs), and private agencies that assist our Veterans-in-need population.
The Stand Down event is possible thanks to donations from organizations such as the Arizona Veteran Stand Down Alliance (AVSA).
Significant organization, planning and coordination support comes from agencies such as the State of Arizona’s Department of Economic Security Veteran Employment Services and the Southern Arizona Health Care System.
Staffing from the funding agencies and other members of TVSV help to plan and run the event. Numerous volunteers from Tucson are crucial in making this event a success for the Veterans seeking assistance in our community.
