At the height of World War II, in 1943, Maxine Bodman enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where she served as a yeoman. You get a sense from listening to her that the same initiative that led her to enlist continues to drive her towards meeting her goals today.
A "fountain of youth" for America’s rapidly aging Veteran population, the games provide a multi-event sports and therapeutic recreation program for eligible Veterans receiving care at any VA medical facility.
Many of the Invictus Games Team USA Veteran athletes also compete at VA events.
To care for the competing Veteran athletes fromfifteen nations, VA medical and mental health personnel from nearby are on site to provide support.

Project Healing Waters provides classes on fly fishing, casting, tying and rod building to any disabled Veteran who wants to participate and is unique in that its volunteers are teaching classes on an on-going, long-term basis.
The goal of recreational therapy is to allow Veterans to return to their previously enjoyed activities or find new activities if a disability inhibits participation.
