Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie released the following statement today regarding Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Sen. Johnny Isakson’s retirement announcement.
“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Sen. Johnny Isakson presided over one of the most transformative times at VA since the end of World War II, and Veterans are better off because of his efforts. Veterans have no greater friend and the Senate no greater example of decency and patriotism. A man of his stamp will be missed in Congress,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie.
“His leadership in the Senate is invaluable to Veterans, and can be seen in important reforms like the MISSION Act. His wisdom will continue to guide us in the future as we establish Blue Water Navy benefits and modernize our electronic health records system,” Wilkie added. “We wish him and his family the best.”
