Thanks to VEText, a text message appointment reminder system for Veterans with the potential to decrease no-shows developed through VHAIE, VA already had systems in place to begin doing just that.

Veterans are scheduling COVID-19 vaccination appointment through VEText, an interactive digital solution from VA that automatically reminds Veterans of upcoming appointments via text messaging.

VEText messaging is helping Veterans enrolled in VA health care with important updates, appointment reminders and opportunities to be seen more quickly.

VEText is a powerful connection between VA and Veterans. We’ve sent over 70 million appointment reminders…and when they had to cancel, using VEText, over a million dates were available for other Vets.

According to the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Office of Veterans Access to Care, as of July 9, more than 3.24 million patients have received VEText messages and canceled 319,504 appointments, freeing up time slots for other Veterans to use.

VA will now remind all enrolled Veterans of their appointments by text. It’s called VEText, an interactive mobile solution that offers a quick and easy way to confirm or cancel appointments.

As of December, the VEText program became available for specialty appointments, but does \not replace the letters, postcards and automated phone calls Veterans already receive for appointment reminders.
