What does Independence Day mean at VA? To our Veterans, the Fourth of July commemorates more than our independence from England in 1776. Independence Day celebrates our right to freedom, and the Veterans we care for know firsthand what it’s like to fight to protect that right.

This Fourth of July, many Veterans will be marking the holiday from VA hospitals and long-term care facilities or receiving medical services through VA’s Home Based Primary Care program alongside countless medical professionals and staff standing ready to support them and their families. Our hardworking employees are dedicated to this mission – caring for those who served our country and helped protect our freedom.

Support the mission

Currently, there are about 18.8 million Veterans living in the United States, and approximately 9 million of them are enrolled in VA health care. Nearly everyone in the nation knows or is connected to someone who served.

With so many Veterans in the U.S. needing care, how can you help?

First, check out careers at VA. We don’t just have openings in health care – nearly every profession is hiring at your local VA facility, from human resources and information technology to food services and truck driving.

With so many people coming together to run a VA medical facility, we’re always looking to add to the team.

Benefits and more

We understand that supporting the mission is not the only factor that comes to mind when searching for a job. VA also has a wealth of benefits that can help make your decision easier.

Our employees get 13 to 26 days of paid annual leave, 13 sick days annually with no limit on accumulation, and 11 paid federal holidays. We even offer paid parental leave for the birth, adoption or foster care placement of a child.

If you’re a health care professional, one active license allows you to work at any one of our nearly 1,300 facilities anywhere in the U.S. Need to move? Transfer to one of our 1,250+ locations without losing any of your benefits or career advancements.

In addition, we offer top-quality insurance, retirement and education repayment benefits to help you save money while building a quality career.
