The VA Health and Benefits mobile app has more than 821,000 users since VA launched it a year ago.
More than 36,000 users have reviewed the app since launch, giving it a rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on the Apple App Store and 4.6 out of 5 on the Google Play Store.
“Lovely format, very user friendly and updated regularly. Recommend using this app instead of the actual site. Keep up the good work developers :)” – Feedback from one Veteran reviewer in a Google Play Store review, 12/13/21
VA wants to raise awareness among Veterans. Here are six essential facts to know:
-
Proof of Veteran status
At local stores and restaurants, Veterans who are logged into the VA Health and Benefits mobile app can easily show their Veteran status for discounts and services without any paperwork. It’s easy and convenient.
-
Easy Login
Log in with FaceID or fingerprint.
-
Manage health care on the go
The app allows Veterans to:
- View and cancel their health care appointments
- Send and receive secure messages from providers
- Get their vaccine records anywhere, anytime
- Access the Veterans Crisis Line—right from their phone
The ability to send secure messaging is one feature Veterans have told us they really like. 267,000 secure messages have been sent by 69,000 Veterans as of May 2022.
-
Manage Disability Claims and Appeals
Veterans can view the status of VA Disability Claims and Appeals, and upload documents easily to send to VA related to their claim.
-
View VA Payments
The Payments feature rolled out on April 12, 2022, in the app. It allows Veterans to view Disability Compensation, Pension and Education payments.
-
Upcoming Features
VA is continually adding more features to the app. Stay tuned for these new features already in the works:
- Prescription refill
- View lab and test results
- Travel pay reimbursement

While this is a great step. Going to new system left a whole in my care. Under the old system I connected VA health records into Apple Health app. This is great because I may have multiple sources of health care and under Apple Health everything becomes consolidated. No need for multiple health apps if you just want to review medical records. Including prescriptions. The other aspect of using Apple Health, for me, is the ability to share device generated information. For example, if my Apple Watch records a heart monitoring event, I can immediately share any data generated back to my care provider. Unfortunately the VA hasn’t enabled the sharing feature, ever.
By integrating what Apple Health does with my VA records getting care can become more focused.
I would really be lost if I couldn’t use this app and features. It makes getting my meds on time and let’s me send a message to my Primary Provider for all of my needs, meds refills, test results, appointments, reminders so that I don’t miss any appointments. And if my Provider needs me to get some blood work or any other issues taken care of it’s a lot easier for everyone. Thanks again for all your help with getting this to the Veteran’s finger tips.
Do these apps work wit the new health care record system , or are they just for the older system. I ask because I live in Columbus oh and they are on the new system. And the new system isn’t fun to deal with.
Not at this time, unfortunately. But we hope to in the future.
Va is a good place for the veterans and there families

I have a question: I have My Healthy Vet!
Do I need this Too????
Hello Raymond. You do not necessarily _need_ the VA Health and Benefits mobile app in addition to My HealtheVet.
Many Veterans find it useful to have both. The app currently has some of the same features as MHV (specifically Secure Messaging and Appointments list). The messages and appointments you see in the app will be identical to those you see in MHV. The app allows you to access those features and send messages to your care team from your mobile device, wherever you may be. No need to go to your laptop or desktop computer to log in.
We’ll soon be adding prescription refills to the app as well, making it even easier to manage your health care “on the go”.
the increase you talked about for this oct 2022 the numbers you have up does not match what you said. I do have my wife as a dependent. Are the amounts you have is it with or without dependent. do you have a run down with dependent.

If I were to sign up for this app, I would never remember my appoinments. I have the ability to make and cancel appointments now without download yet ANOTHER APP!!!!!!
Hi Ken. You should certainly continue to use the system you are most comfortable with.
Note that the VA Health and Benefits app can send you a push notification on your mobile device for appointment reminders and when you receive a new secure message. That might help alleviate the concern you mentioned.
When will Flu shots be giving?
Call your local VA. I’m not sure if you will ever get a response.
