GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: A day that encourages people to do good. Over the past 10 years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity year-round.

GivingTuesday creates global impact driven by local action. In the U.S. alone, 300 community campaigns rally thousands of nonprofits, foundations, grassroots organizations, small businesses and generous individuals to give back.

Your local VA is an avenue for you or your organization to support by either making a monetary donation, hosting a holiday food drive, rallying new volunteers or posting ways you have supported the local VA on your social media platform.

VA is counting on your support

Every small act adds up

In 2021, an estimated $2.7 billion were donated in 24 hours in the U.S. alone, a 9% increase over the prior year and a 37% increase from pre-pandemic levels. On Nov. 30, 2021, 35 million adults participated by offering gifts of time, voice, skills, goods and money, as well as countless acts of kindness inspired by the movement to charities they support.

During this holiday season, VA facilities across the nation host special holiday events for hospitalized Veterans who may not be able to visit with family members or have any family at all to celebrate the holiday season. You and your organization can give back to VA for this year’s GivingTuesday.

Undoubtedly, the past year has been challenging, but VA is counting on your support to be able to host these events and provide items to Veterans who may have to experience the holidays away from home.

By visiting the VA Center for Development & Civic Engagement’s (CDCE) website you can explore the many ways you can support your local VA, such as making a monetary donation and donating physical items. You can volunteer your time to support the many programs such as the Compassionate Contact Corps, transporting Veterans to their appointments or greeting Veterans as they enter VA.

GivingTuesday: Everyone has something to give

GivingTuesday marks the beginning of the 2022 holiday season for VA teams and medical facilities. With your donation to the facility holiday accounts, it will allow staff to prepare special activities and purchase gift packages.

You can show your generosity in a variety of ways during GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or finding virtual volunteer opportunities with your favorite causes. Everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts. Please remember your local VA has many opportunities for you to give back.

I’m in need of an Arctic weather sleeping bag. We used to get one at the annual stand-down, but we haven’t had one in three years. Can anyone please help me out? Thank you so much. Happy Holidays!!?
