Looking for work? Explore East Coast job opportunities with VA

Our team recently conducted a broad poll on our LinkedIn page with the question, “What area of the country are you looking for work?” The poll then divided the country into four regions: East Coast, West Coast, Midwest/Northwest and South/Southwest.

After nearly 16,000 responses, the East Coast was the top choice on the poll at 41%, so today we’ll take a look at the VA facilities you’ll find there, and even some of the top jobs available.

Veterans Integrated Service Networks

Veterans’ health care in the United States is separated geographically into 18 regions known as Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs). These regional systems of care work together to better meet local health care needs and provide greater access to care for Veterans.

Along the east coast, there are five VISNs:

• VA New England Healthcare System (VISN 1) in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
• New York/New Jersey VA Health Care Network (VISN 2) in New York and New Jersey.
• VA Healthcare – VISN 4 in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and parts of Ohio.
• VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5) in Maryland, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and parts of Virginia.
• VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) in North Carolina and the majority of Virginia.

Find your place

Across these five VISNs, there are hundreds of facilities and thousands of jobs. For example, VA New England Healthcare System is home to 11 medical centers, 48 community-based outpatient clinics and six community living centers.

Each of these places has its own needs and priorities, but there are opportunities for everyone.

• West Haven VA Medical Center in Connecticut is looking for a geriatrics and extended care physician to care for Veterans in its community living center, with some shared duties in the hospice and palliative care unit.
• Full-time licensed practical nurses are needed in the Western New York VA Healthcare System to serve as members of the geriatrics and extended care team, caring for a facet of our Veteran population that is steadily increasing.
• The Pittsburgh VA Health Care System is looking for a certified pathologist to support its Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service in a position that is a combination of clinical work and academic instruction.
• Martinsburg VA Medical Center in West Virginia has a need for a clinical psychologist to work in both the outpatient clinic and primary care settings, with an emphasis on assessments, interventions and therapeutic assistance.
• WG Bill Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center in North Carolina is currently recruiting a social worker to head up its Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (PTSD RRTP), a highly structured treatment setting for Veterans.

These are by no means the only jobs available at these facilities, but this selection serves to showcase that there are hundreds of hands that come together to heal our Veterans each and every day in a variety of ways.
