As the largest employer in the nation, the federal government is able to offer exceptional retirement benefits, which includes a comprehensive retirement package known as the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).

FERS is a three-tiered system that includes your Social Security benefits, a Thrift Spending Plan that works like a 401(k), and the FERS pension plan built from contributions you make with each paycheck. This package is second to none when it comes to helping you be ready for the rest and relaxation you will have earned at the end of your career.

When you retire, you’ll receive monthly payments for the rest of your life, based on your salary and how long you worked for VA, and you can be eligible for retirement from VA in as little as 5 years.

FERS is particularly beneficial to Veterans looking to continue their careers. Military service is creditable for federal retirement purposes, which can impact not only how quickly you can retire, but also how much you receive from FERS upon retirement. So, really, can you afford to skip over all the opportunities VA has to offer Veterans and transitioning military personnel?

    Can white people work there?

    • Wayne Mikell November 2, 2023 at 18:41

Yes they can….been there 16+ years. A great benefit, after 1 year of employment can apply for the scholarship program. One pays for nursing school and gives you a regular 2 week paycheck while you go to school.
Another scholarship program will pay for your BSN or MSN if you’re already an RN. In return have to work there for 3 years.
Go to USA Jobs and search position’s. This site covers many federal agencies. Great resource to finding a career. Being a veteran helps with the hiring process.

Retirement and modernity offers many options for Federal Employees and the benefit of having a steady aptitude for work and the continuity of the United States has its priority. Systems like FERS helps morale and the pleasures of life with which our society can always look forward to.

The first comment on here is for a va disability rating issue not a va employee carrier. So when she say she can’t get he I do believe she is talking about va disability compensation. Please don’t say it like you can’t get help from the va. Everyone get medical from the vha, with does not give money for disabilities! The vba is the disability division they don’t healthcare only give compensation. It’s like one is Dodge and on is Ford. If people done some reading on line the would figure this out instead of the easy way out by blaming the va for not wanting to so some research like the rest of us. So problem with Vietnam era is a lot of medic did not have time to record things just treat or med records got burned up but locate old mates if there still alive as statements that confirm his injuries work many times. As far as blood pressure you are waist your time and breath if it’s controlled they will give him a 0 more than likely is it’s not controlled they will give him 10 i or max for that issue of 20 %. But for goodness sakes stop whining and read. Most are interested in our health not money so get him healthy and read. I we did not have the va no one else would care about us!!!

Good luck getting hired on. Even at 80% disability and years experience in the area they were hiring for, submitting all the paperwork for veteran preference…Not even an interview. They must hire on the buddy system.

I tried. When I got out of the Army I applied. After hearing nothing I went to the VA to ask. I didn’t fill any quotas so I was never going to be hired according to HR.
