When the time comes for a military family to move as a result of a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) order, military spouses are often confronted with the burden of finding the time necessary to get everything done and keep up with their jobs.
“As I faced another PCS move, the second in two years, I planned how many days I needed for our move. As I worked through the logistics, my days were filling up quickly,” said Megan Paone. “This was the first time we were moving our children without a nanny. We needed to enroll them in daycare, explore our new area, settle into our new home, and maybe try to get some sleep.”
To address military spouse employment challenges, VA is implementing key tenets across internal hiring and retention efforts as part of the historic 4+1 Commitment. These tenets position VA to attract, hire and retain military spouses.
One of the tenets is VA’s commitment to providing leave to address PCS moves, offering a little peace of mind to any military spouses wondering how they will find the time to get everything done.
Through our Veteran and Military Spouse Talent Engagement Program (VMSTEP), and our participation in the 4+1 Commitment, we’re taking actionable steps to reduce military spouse unemployment and underemployment rates, thus contributing to the stability of military families.
