For many Veterans, the transition to civilian life comes with challenges.

The Veterans Community Support (VCS) Program by Your Next Mission provides a comprehensive one-on-one support program to address the unique needs of Veterans and their families, and its services range from transition, education, employment, career mentorship, financial wellness, health care, homelessness, mental health, suicide prevention, VA benefits, Veteran special support and Veteran Wellness.

Why VCS matters

Veterans and their families should not have to face life challenges alone. The VCS Program provides a one-stop option to tap into problem solving assistance and it leverages Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) to address needs across a broad spectrum. Tackling life stressors helps improve overall well-being and reduces compounding distress for Veterans and their families.

How VCS works

  1. Upon enrollment, a VCS representative reaches out within 1 – 2 business days to schedule a one-on-one consultation.
  2. The VCS representative develops a plan to address identified needs.
  3. The VCS representative personally assists in problem solving or conducts an introduction with one or more partnered VSOs to address each specific need of the Veteran.
  4. The VCS representative remains in contact until needs are met or assistance is no longer needed.

Testimonials

“VCS helped me problem solve an ongoing bank and merchant accounting discrepancy. They ultimately reached out to the bank’s corporate military affairs division to request additional support on my behalf. The bank’s special action team looked over the case, identified the discrepancy, and gave me a permanent credit for the entire transaction amount. I am thankful for VCS’s assistance throughout this entire process; I probably never would have gotten to this point without it.” – AP

“I was unsure how to navigate from civilian employment back to federal employment until I found Your Next Mission® – VCS Program. The VCS representative was efficient and knowledgeable. They connected me with an organization that coached me on how to transition my civilian resume to a federal resume that met OPM standards. Thanks to VCS, I secured a job and feel confident about my future. I’m incredibly grateful for their assistance.” – MD

“I couldn’t be more thankful the Your Next Mission® – VCS Program. When my spouse was unable to work in the civilian sector, their team offered the resources I needed. With their help, they connected me to an organization that updated my resume, another organization that provided my family with free mental health support, and another organization that specialized in assisting Veteran spouses find meaningful employment. Their connections to Veteran resources made all the difference in my family’s transition, and I highly recommend their services to any Veteran family member in need.” – KS

  3. Dina Karpf February 28, 2025 at 09:13

    Good morning,

Would if be possible to acquire more information and/or a contact for the VCS program please? I work for a program that is housed under the Behavioral Health Administration for the state of Maryland, called Maryland’s Commitment to Veterans. We offer resources to Veterans, Service Members and their families. I believe this would be a valuable resource for them. Thank you in advance.
    Respectfully,
    Dina Karpf

I have long been upset with the failure of the VA to help the transition from soldier to civilian life. It’s strange how the military can take the civilian out of us but never try to put it back!

As far as paying income taxes, my wife and I really don’t have to file because of our age and total income. However, We have to pay to get the taxes filed because the VA will kick me off the VA rolls if we don’t file our IRS taxes. There used to be a form that I could fill out for that but the VA opted to do away with that form. Another couple hundred dollar expense for us just to keep my VA coverage

Have you tried to contact the IRS to see if they have an exemption form that will cover you with the VA? Also, have you tried contacting your state representatives to see if they can advocate for folks like you? I’m sure there’s many others out there in similar circumstances. Additionally, there are places in the community that will do taxes for free like many local Senior or Community Centers; sometimes there will be notices at VA facilities of these services as well. Don’t forget your service organizations like the American Legion and DAV that can push for VA or legislative changes or offer personal assistance.

I need advice on taxable income and filing requirements

    • M James March 15, 2025 at 11:26

John, a lot of this information is available online at the IRS website. If you don’t have reliable internet services, there are other places that will help. Many VA facilities will post this information, or you can reach out to local community agencies. In our area, the combo Senior/Community Center provides free tax assistance. Also check with the American Legion, DAV, or VFW to see if they can help or provide additional resources.

I will never trust the VA in Fayetteville NC,in 2012 Dr Peter Karl Chung of the ID Clinic tried to kill me by sabotaging my HIV Cocktail, then tried to cover it up by treating me for TB WHEN I didn’t have it,the ISONAIZID along with blood pressure medicine toporal CL 25mg lowered my BP to 70/32, causing a grand Mal seizure,a CVA &Optic neuropathy, but then instead of dying Dr Chung my case was seept under the rug by my attorney and the VA
.I’ve never hated anyone so much as I do Dr Chung.now I’m in need of a neurologist and can’t get one cause the Fayetteville VA doesn’t think I need one, they call it anxiety, yet I have uncontrollable muscle movements and cranial pain from my neck jerking.i tell you veterans don’t trust the WOKE VA.

Instead of opioids for pain killers, instead of paying out for prosthetic knees or hips, save money save the patient a lot of pain and aggravation by paying for therapies such as PRP, ProloTherapy and or stem cell treatments. The VA has to stop jerking veterans around with physical disabilities. The VA pays for transgender treatments and possibly even surgeries, this I don’t know but the transgender treatments the VA does. VA pays for something that is not service connected but elective the VA can treat us physically service connected disabled veterans.
