On June 6th, 1944, over 160,000 Allied troops descended on the beaches of Normandy, France to begin an invasion that would lead to the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany. Seventy years later, we pause to remember the 9,000 Allied soldiers who were wounded or killed that day, and honor those heroes who are still with us today.
The sacrifice that day was remarkable, and the victory of freedom over tyranny only serves to amplify the contributions of American service members in our history before and after. At VA Careers, we look at this day as a renewal of our commitment to our Nation’s Veterans—to care for the wounds, both seen and unseen, that they have borne in battle and in peacetimes.
