The Department of Labor (DoL) is currently accepting applications for the beta phase of the HIRE Vets Medallion Program to recognize employers who hire and retain Veterans as employees.
The program stems from the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing (HIRE) American Military Veterans Act of 2017, which directs the department to “annually solicit and accept voluntary information from employers for consideration of employers to receive a HIRE Vets Medallion Award.”
This year’s awards, specifically titled The HIRE Vets Medallion Program Demonstration, will be used to finalize the permanent awards program beginning in 2019. According to the DoL, this inaugural round of awards will demonstrate the potential of the program to raise awareness of the HIRE Vets Medallion Program and enable more employers to garner recognition when the Program launches in 2019.
Employers wishing to be recognized can apply directly at www.hirevets.gov and fill out an electronic application. The application period opened Feb. 2 and will close April 30, 2018, or after the first 300 applications are received.
By law, the Department of Labor’s VETS’ mission is to prepare America’s Veterans, service members and their spouses for rewarding careers, provide them with employment resources and expertise, protect their employment rights, and promote their employment opportunities.

I agree that it’s great employers are hiring veterans. My suggestion to all fellow veterans is to present yourself to a would be employer as professional as possible. Don’t think you are entitled to a job just because you are a Veteran. Let that employer know what you can do for their company. Also there is a wealth of information out there if you want to start your own business at the small business administration. I started my own military themed t-shirt business.

Who are these participating employers today. They should receive public recognition from the Federal government so people like me can, where I can, support their products and services. PS: I was a Vietnam veteran hired by General Motors Corporation in large part because of the governments proctive & very public stance on hiring returning VN veterans.
I am glad that employers are hiring Veterans and helping them after serving their country. I do want to emphasize that the Department of Labor is not a supporter of veterans. I was a DOL employee hired under the VRA. I was terminated without notification after only 9 months. I was told I had no protctection and dismissed like garbage. The DOL violates the very laws that it is charged with enforcing.
